Bayern Munich have reacted to Real Madrid’s interest in Robert Lewandowski and in the next few hours could make an agreement with the player over a contract renewal.

“We’ve had conversations with his agents and we’re ready to extend his contract,” the club’s president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told German paper Bild.

"We're not going to pay the same figures as City or PSG"

The Polish striker’s contract ends in 2019 and Bayern Munich are prepared to raise his salary, albeit not to the same level as some of Europe’s other top forwards, revealed Rummenigge.
“We’re not going to pay the figures that Manchester City or PSG are offering. We are paying very good salaries, but those clubs pay crazy amounts.”

Bayern’s reaction comes after Real Madrid began considering the option of returning once again to tempt Lewandowski away from Bavaria, although it was always likely to be a complicated move to pull off owing to Bayern’s reluctance to sell the player (and especially so after his possible replacement Higuaín signed for Juventus). Madrid, too, would have to sell Morata in order to finance the operation.
