Top 10 highest paid Asian footballers
Japan dominates the list of the highest paid players from Asia, with five out of the top 10.
1. Japan, Shinji Kagawa, who plays for German club Borussia Dortmund, has a current salary of EUR 5.7 M.
2. Japan, Hidetoshi Nakata, has already retired. His last club was Bolton Wanderers where his salary hit EUR 3.2 M in his last season, 2005/2006.
3. Australia, Tim Cahill, plays for Australian club Melbourne City in the A-League as well as for the Australia national football team, has a remuneration package of EUR 3.2 M.
4. Saudi Arabia, Omar Abdul Rahman. Better known as Amoory, this Emirati currently plays for Al-Ain in the UAE Arabian Gulf League and for the UAE national football team. His current salary is EUR 2.9 M.
5. South Korea, Park-Ji Sung. The former footballer is now a club ambassador at Manchester United where he played seven seasons. His highest salary was EUR 2.8 M.
6. Japan, Keisuke Honda. Currently considered one of the best four Asian footballers. Honda plays for Milan and for the Japan national football team as an attacking midfielder, although his skills make him a versatile player, performing well as a winger or a deep-lying playmaker too. EUR 2.75 M.
7. Oman, Ali Al Habsi is the captain of the Oman national team and plays as a goalkeeper for English club Reading. His current salary at this latter club is EUR 2.7 M.
8. South Korea, Park Joo-Ho. Currently playing for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga he makes EUR 2.6 M.
9. Japan, Shinji Okazaki, picks up EUR 2.1 M playing for Leicester City and the Japan national football team as a forward. In the Bundesliga, Okazaki is still the most prolific Japanese player ever.
10. Japan, Shunsuke Nakamura plays as an attacking midfielder for Yokohama F. Marinos in the J1 League and has the honor of having received twice the J. League Most Valuable Player award. EUR 1.04 M.
