Costa Rican winger Joel Campbell has joined Lisbon’s Sporting Clube on a season-long loan from Arsenal, both clubs announced on Sunday.
The 24-year-old signed for Arsenal in 2011, but struggled for first-team football and spent spells on loan at Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiacos and Villarreal. He did have a run in Arsène Wenger's side last term, scoring four goals in 30 appearances.
Sporting were runners-up in the Portuguese Primeira Liga last season behind arch rivals Benfica, missing out on the title by just two points. Jorge Jesus' men have started the new campaign with back-to-back victories over Maritimo and Paços de Ferreira.
