The 10 players which Atlético can recoup under the transfer ban
Atlético de Madrid shrewdly loaned out 10 players over the summer - any of whom are legally able to return to the club while the FIFA Transfer ban is in place.
Atlético moved swiftly in anticipation of the ban
Atlético have finally been informed of the FIFA transfer ban for their involvement in the registration of minors, and like city neighbours Real Madrid, they will be unable to make any new signings during the next two transfer windows - in January 2017 and the following summer. Atlético were always aware that a transfer sanction was a real possibility - the club worked overtime during the summer to confect a youthful squad with promise for the future. The club renewed key figures such as Griezmann, Oblak and Saúl and brought in a handful of younger players who Simeone trusts will return with more experience next summer, and crucially, can be reincorporated into the squad without breaching the FIFA suspension.
10 players who could return if need be
In total 10 players have been loaned out but could any of them could return to Atleti next summer: Diogo Jota (on loan at Porto), Vietto and Kranevitter (Sevilla), Manquillo (Sunderland), Velázquez (SC Braga), Mensah (Vitória de Guimarães), Santos Borré (Villarreal), Werner (Boca Juniors), Theo (Alavés) and Héctor (Albacete). Óliver has gone back to Porto, but his loan arrangement concludes in December 2017.
A young goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and two forwards. El Cholo has left himself a number of alternatives should Atlético find themselves short-staffed, now that they cannot sign anyone until January 2018.
