Real Madrid 5-2 Osasuna

Zidane notched up his 15th win in a row as Real Madrid took Osasuna to the cleaners at the Bernabéu. Ronaldo opened the scoring for Real Madrid on his come-back from the injury he suffered in the Euro 2016 final, slotting home after just five minutes.

Osasuna didn't give up despite going behind so early and had a great chance to go to 1-1 when Unai Garcia hit the bar with a header after 39 minutes. But Real Madrid went straight up the other end and doubled their lead with Danilo firing home a rebound. Sergio Ramos made it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time and pretty much put the game to bed.

The second half was played at a fairly pedestrian pace, with the heat in the Bernabéu taking it's toll and both sides accepting Real Madrid were always going to be taking the points, but saw four goals, with Real Madrid moving to 5-0 with goals from Pepe (thanks to a disaster from Nauzet) and Modric, before Osasuna replied with a couple to make the scoreline more respectable. Casilla also saved a poor penalty from Torres, with Ramos booked for fouling Jaime.

Full time: Real Madrid 5-2 Osasuna

93' | Peep! Full time. Zidane equals Munoz's record of consecutive wins and Real Madrid go provisionally top of the table.

Thanks for following and be sure to join Aled for this evening's match between Barcelona and Alavés.

91' | Benzema! Chests it onto the post!

90' | 3 minutes of time added on.

89' | Benzema squanders a great chance to make it six on the left, doing all the work, then sliding the ball past both keeper and post.

88' | The game is meandering to the final whistle. Real Madrid would quite like a sixth, but they're not that bothered. Osasuna couldn't really care less about a third.

87' | Lucas Vázquez has 6-2 on his bonce, but he can't believe he isn't offside and fails to connect with the ball, with just Nauzet to beat.

84' | Kroos with a trademark Kroos inside-of-the-boot-curler and it's just past the upright.

82' | Barring some beyond-bonkers finish to this match Zidane will equal Miguel Muñoz' record of 15 consecutive wins with Real Madrid here.

78' | RED CARD! Tano's off for Osasuna. Second booking. He brought down Nacho.

77' | GOOOOAAAAAALLL! Jaime crosses and David García flicks a cute header over Casilla and inside the far post. 5-2!

75' | Benzema batters one off the bar. He was unmarked after a great cut-back to him in the box and really should have bothered the back of the onion-bag.

74' | Bale comes off. Lucas Vázquez on.

72' | PENALTY SAVED! Torres with a terribly tame penalty along the ground to Casilla's right, keeper down easily to push it away.

71' | PENALTY FOR OSASUNA! If the ref had played advantage it would have been 5-2 with Osasuna firing home after the foul was committed, but he'd already blown. Jaime nudged over by Ramos as he rounded Casilla. Ramos was booked.

70' | De Las Cuevas off and Torres on for Osasuna.

69' | Benzema is running about freely up front for Real Madrid. He'll be keen as mustard to get on this scoresheet.

65' | And that's Ronaldo's afternoon finished. He applauds the Bernabéu as he comes off, and it's Benzema taking the Portuguese striker's place.

Ronaldo had a fairly quiet afternoon (by his standards), but opened the scoring and was involved in a fair few moves, where he seemed keener to pass than go himself than many might be used to.

Ronaldo goes straight onto the bench and gets an ice-pack straight onto the knee he twisted in Paris.

64' | Morata.... how did he not make it six?! Free header, but the Madrid man steers it wide.

63' | GOOOOAAAAAL! Oriol Riera! Free header in the box for the big Osasuna man and he buries with aplomb!

62' | And Modric's work here is done. He trundles off to be replaced by Asensio (cheers from the Bernabéu).

60' | GOOOOAAAAL! Modric!! Five goals, five scorers. Morata in the box dinks it back to Modric who creates a tiny bit of space and buries it in the bottom corner.

59' | Bale! Snap shot at the back, but it's well saved by Nauzet. Good break from Madrid. Note, Ronaldo seems very keen to pass this afternoon, even when in trademark Ronaldo shooting positions. Interesting.

56' | Danilo with a decent cross in, but Morata, unmarked, loses his bearings and sends his header miles away from the target.

55' | GOOOOOAAAALLLL!!! Pepe! His header from a corner sneaks past Nauzet and it's 4-0!

Ball was right at the Osasuna keeper, who has been good this afternoon, but had a shocker crossed with an absolute mare there.

53' | Oier shoots rather desperately from 30 yards out. Casilla has time to finish his crossword before the ball eventually trundles past the post.

52' | Off comes Kenan and on comes Jaime for Osasuna.

49' | Great goalkeeping from Nauzet saves the fourth, Kovacic unmarked shooting straight into the stopper's body.

48' | Oier gets into a war of words with Pepe, after bringing the Real Madrid player down, then shouting at him to get up. The ref breaks them up.

47' | Lightning break from Madrid started by some sublime trickery from Modric to beat two Osasuna players. Morata gets a decent cross in at the end of the move, but evades the straining Madrid heads in the centre.

47' | Pepe scrambles a cross behind at the back post, with Garcia breathing down his neck. Some nice early pressure for Osasuna. Just the three to get.

46' | Kenan gets a shot off for Osasuna which hits Ramos. Early corner for the visitors.

Second half underway!

Ronaldo chatting to Danilo in the tunnel, looks to be explaining what runs he's going to make and where he wants Danilo to play the ball.

Osasuna players in the tunnel. They don't look that excited about heading out onto the Santiago Bernabéu pitch again. Unsurprisingly.

Half-time

It took just five minutes for Ronaldo to announce his return, slotting home from Bale as the Osasuna defence went into melt-down. A shame for the visitors who in general were well organised, but ended up conceding two more as Real Madrid showed their attacking prowess.

Danilo slotted a rebound home in the 40th minute (just after Osasuna had hit the bar with a great header from Unai García) and Sergio Ramos put the tin lid on things for the visitors with a fine header from a corner, that proved to be the last touch of the ball in the first half.

Does Osasuna coach Enrique Martín settle for a 3-0 defeat, or try and do something in the second half, that will likely just see Real Madrid get the chance to increase their lead on the counter?

Real Madrid - Osasuna: first half

45' | GOOOOOOOOAAAAAL!!!! Ramos bullets a header home! 3-0!

Corner comes in and Ramos nicks in front of everyone to fire Madrid into a 3-0 lead.

44' | Real Madrid on the attack, the keeper keeps claiming crosses and his defenders nick the ball out of his hands. He's not happy.

42' | Ronaldo turbos up the left and unselfishly crosses to Bale. But his first touch is poor and Nauzet manages to cover, sending the Welshman flying in the air as he does so. Madrid appeal for a penalty but Borbolán is having none of it.

40' | GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL!!! Danilo makes it 2-0!

Cheeky scoop from Ronaldo to Morata whose header was denied by Nauzet, but the rebound fell to Danilo who, at the second attempt, slotted home.

39' | OFF THE BAR! Smashing header from Unai Garcia beats Casilla all ends up and whacks off the woodwork!

38' | The troublesome Riviere wins another corner for Osasuna. Comes to nothing.

36' | Oier out on the left looks for De Las Cuevas at the back of the box, but he's had too much Weetabix for breakfast and sends it miles over his teammate's head and straight out.

35' | Osasuna still keen, but they need to be a lot more precise bringing the ball forward if they want dangerman Riviere to do any damage.

34' | Another ball over the top to Bale is just a shade long, and Nauzet turns sweeper to JUST get to it before the Welshman.

33' | Kroos with a great diagonal ball to an onrushing Bale, who controls sweetly, but fails to find a man in white with his ball into the box.

31' | Unai Garcia downs Modric on the charge. He goes into the book. Dangerous free-kick on the right for Madrid. Kroos swings it in, but Morata fouls and the chance passes.

30' | Angled free-kick in from De Las Cuevas, Riviere gets the flicked header to it, but he can't direct it on target and slips harmlessly past Casilla's upright.

29' | Danilo batters into Oier and gives away a dangerous free-kick...

26' | Real Madrid on the front foot at the moment, camped in the Osasuna half and looking for a killer route to goal.

Ronaldo tries to volley a chip over Nauzet with a ball dropping over his shoulder, but it lands on the roof of the net. Tough one to execute.

24' | Superb touch from Ronaldo to release Kovacic who sprints into the box but can't get a pass to a Real Madrid man. Tekkers from Ronaldo though to start the move.

23' | Kroos floats a free-kick into the box, but no Real Madrid player can do anything useful with it.

21' | Bale turns neatly and blasts one, forcing a save from Nauzet! Corner comes in and Ramos just wide with the header.

19' | De Las Cuevas to take another corner for Osasuna. Right into the middle, but no danger...

18' | Bale takes the free-kick from distance but he gets under it and pitching-wedges it into the stands.

17' | Kovacic gets a high boot in the face from Flaño, who's booked... free-kick to Real Madrid!

16' | Zidane shouting instructions at Kovacic - he's not supporting his teammates as the French coach expects.

15' | Real Madrid stroke it about at the back of the midfield and then somehow lose it, Osasuna nearly get through on goal but the final ball to Riviere is short and all of a sudden Real Madrid are on a dangerous counter, but Kroos' ball sees Morata just a smidgen offside. As you were.

12 | Nacho into a good position down the left, but he's offside. He does like a run up the wing does Nacho.

10' | Osasuna coach Enrique Martín has kept his suit jacket on, which seems like sweat-inducing madness in this heat.

9' | Corner for Osasuna. Too many balls on the pitch, but once that's sorted the corner comes into the centre of the box, Real Madrid clear quickly, go up the other end and nearly score, with keeper Nauzet blocking Danilo's effort and Kroos blasting the rebound wide. Scary for Osasuna though.

7' | Osasuna had had a couple of mini chances before the goal, the best a snapshot from Riviere which went wide. But being 1-0 down to Real Madrid after 5 minutes means it could be a very long, hot, painful afternoon for the visitors...

5' | GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAL!!! Real Madrid! Ronaldo is BACK!

Osasuna defence falls to pieces, Danilo to Bale out on the right, he's unmarked and strides inside and passes to Ronaldo, also unmarked, who strokes home. Real Madrid 1-0 Osasuna.

4' | Kroos long ball to Danilo out on the right, but he's offside. Statement of intent though that Madrid will look for long balls over the top to runners. Nice defending from Osasuna to get the back line sorted.

3' | Modric slips and gets up very gingerly. Looks like he might have twisted something, but he's ok.

2' | Pepe covering at the back wins the ball, but he's robbed out on the right. The visitors can't make anything of it though. Osasuna starting brightly.

1' | Osasuna hoof the ball forward, Riera chases, Ramos shields the ball out.

Kick-off! Osasuna get us underway!

1' to go | Referee Fernández Borbalán is whistling and spraying this one.

3' to go | Real Madrid and Osasuna troop out of the tunnel, lots of squinting as they come out into the brilliantly dazzling Spanish sunshine.

4' to go | Teams are in the tunnel at the Bernabéu, a lot of hugging going on between the players.

Hello and welcome and to our live online coverage and pre-match build-up to the LaLiga match between Real Madrid and Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabéu (Kick off: 16.00 CEST, Saturday 10 September 2016).

It's a gloriously sunny afternoon in Madrid, but the mercury is over 30 degrees right now, with an expected high during the game of 32 degrees, meaning the referee may well call for a cooling break. (Fifa rules say the game should be stopped after 30 minutes for a cooling break when the temperature is 32 degrees or over).

The big news for Real Madrid: Cristiano is back. The club have released this video celebrating that fact.

Raúl is also back at the Bernabéu, in the commentary box, with BeIN Sports.

With a few minutes to go before the game starts, why not grab a quick cuppa and read how things went at Old Trafford this afternoon, where Pep came out on top in what was a hum-dinger of a game, said many.

Real Madrid - Osasuna Preview

With the international break over and all of the players involved safely back home, Real Madrid resume proceedings hoping to build on a flawless record in their second home game of the new campaign. Zidane’s team saw of Celta in their last game at the Bernabéu (2-1) but will be attempting to give a better impression in front of their own fans. The coach will be asking his players to show the same kind of intensity they showed against Real Sociedad on the opening day. Osasuna’s return to life in the fast lane has come as a bit of a shock to the system; the Rojillos snatched a draw at La Rosaleda on the opening day but crashed to a demoralising  0-2 home defeat to Real Sociedad seven days later, which leaves Enrique Martín troops still looking for their first win. Curiously, Osasuna were the last Spanish side to beat Madrid 0-4 at the Bernabéu (before Barcelona's four-goal hiding from last season); but that was over a quarter of a century ago and a lot has changed since then...

Real Madrid team news

There was good news mid-week for Zidane. Cristiano is back training and declared himself fit to start his first game of the new season. He is in the list, as is Karim Benzema, who has looked in tip top shape on the practice pitches but Álvaro Morata is expected to get the nod ahead of him. Marcelo could be rested with Wednesday’s Champions League group opener against Sporting Clube in mind, and Nacho coming in as a makeshift left-back.

Osasuna team news

Enrique Martín is known as a something of a miracle worker in Pamplona - the coach did manage to take a point from the Bernabéu in his first season as a caretaker manager with Osasuna back in January 1994. He told AS this week that he’d gladly settle for a similar result this time, and surmised that if he had just one player from every line of Madrid’s team in his roster, the Rojillos “would be in the Champions League”. Martín is certain to play it super-safe in Chamartín, fielding a sobering five-man defence with three centre-backsDavid García, Miguel Flaño and Unai García. In attack, recent arrival Sergio León is expected to partner Oriol Riera – a man who knows Real Madrid well – he scored a brace in the 2013 meeting at El Sadar. In general though, Osasuna have given no indication that they will be among LaLiga’s high-scoring sides this year; their struggles to find the net during the pre-season was one of the defining traits of their summer and it will be a case of keeping collateral damage to a bare minimum in the capital.
