Saudi Arabia at the 2026 World Cup: squad, list, players, group schedule and results
Saudi Arabia picked up their first point at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and were unlucky not to come away with more from their opener against Uruguay in Miami.
The “Green Falcons” lost 4-1 against Spain and face Cape Verde in their final group match still with a chance to get through to the Round of 32.
Making it to the knockout stage would be even more remarkable considering that Saudi Arabia entered the tournament under unique circumstances. Donis was rapidly appointed in April, just two months before the World Cup was due to kick off, after Hervé Renard was sacked from the post.
Donis, a veteran of the Saudi Pro League managerial circuit, has favored continuity by leaning heavily on a domestic-based core, including several heroes from the famous 2022 upset over Argentina.

The squad is captained by Al Hilal’s legendary 34-year-old winger Salem Al Dawsari, the reigning AFC Player of the Year and the team’s chief creative catalyst. He is supported in attack by Al Ahli’s clinical striker Firas Al Buraikan, while Al Nassr’s Nawaf Al Aqidi anchors the side in goal after a string of dramatic qualifying saves.
On the defensive end, Lens right-back Saud Abdulhamid—the only European-based player on the roster—provides vital elite-level tactical experience as Saudi Arabia prepares to battle Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde in a highly competitive Group H.
