Mauro Icardi pens new deal at Inter Milan

The Argentine had attracted interest from the Premier League this summer but has opted to extend his current deal at the San Siro.

Update:
Mauro Icardi pens new deal at Inter Milan

Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi has put talk of a move away from the San Siro to rest by signing a new contract which keeps him at the club until 2021.

Icardi's release clause set at over €100 million

The 23 year-old striker, who joined the club from Sampdoria in 2013, has started the season strongly with six goals in seven games and had attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs, among them Arsenal and Chelsea.

Icardi’s new contract sets his buy-out clause - which can only be activated by non-Italian clubs – at a hefty €110 million and increases his salary to €5.5 million a year.

Inter celebrate Ever Banega's equaliser against Roma last Sunday. They went on to lose the match 2-1, with Icardi's own goal the difference.

Inter Milan's mixed start to the season

Inter have had a mixed start to their first season under Frank de Boer despite Icardi’s goalscoring exploits and currently sit ninth in the Serie A table with just three wins from the opening seven games. They host Cagliari, who sit just one place below them in the table, immediately following the international break.
