Aleix García was one of the pearls of Villarreal’s academy until Manchester City snapped him up in August 2015 for four million euros.

However, Villarreal tucked a potentially very profitable clause into the deal that took the defensive midfielder to the north of England: for every 10 games the 19-year-old plays for Pep Guardiola’s side, City will have to deposit one million euros in the Submarine’s coffers. For an appearance to count towards the magic number, García has to be on the pitch for 30 minutes or more. The clause remains active until García’s 70th City game.

So far this season Pep Guardiola has played García for 15 minutes against Bournemouth in the Premier League and handed him his first start a few days later in a cup game against Swansea, during which García netted his first goal for City.
