Mauro Icardi isn’t leaving Inter, says wife
Wanda Nara had a clear message for the club's ultras that have targeted their club's captain this week: "He’s staying 100%."
Mauro Icardi’s wife and agent Wanda Nara has sent defiant message to Inter Milan ultras as the controversy involving her husband rages on.
Icardi won't be leaving Inter, says wife
“Mauro will not leave Inter, he’s staying 100%,” she said in an interview with Il Corriere della Sera. “He had the chance to leave last summer and decided to stay because of the relationship he has with the fans and because he’s very committed to Inter.”
“The [captain’s] armband hasn’t been discussed and he’ll continue being the captain,” she added.
Inter captain and ultras at loggerheads
Icardi caused controversy among Inter’s ultras over the past fortnight after claiming in his autobiography that he had confronted them over an incident in which he gave a child his shirt after a game and that he was welcomed as a hero in the dressing room after the game.
Wanda did apologise for the misinterpretation of some extracts of his book which offended fans. “Things happen, Mauro didn’t want to offend anyone, but some things when written give off the wrong impression. The aim wasn’t to cause problems with the la curva [the ultras]. Everyone knows Mauro, he’s a good person, he’s respectful. He deserves respect.”
Ultras unfurled a banner during last weekend’s match with Cagliari at the San Siro insulting Icardi that read “You’re not a man… you’re not a captain… you are just a vile piece of shit” and cheered when he missed a penalty. Inter lost 2-1.
