Athletic Club's last win at the Bernabéu was in 2005
Zidane played the final 23 minutes of that February 2005 meeting, coming on for Luis Figo. Asier Del Horno and Andoni Iraola were the goal scorers in the 0-2 win.
Athletic Club pay their annual visit to the Bernabéu, a ground which has hasn't delivered much fortune for the Bilbaínos in recent years. The Basques' last league win in Chamartín was on 19 February 2005. Madrid have won all of the 12 meetings since then, scoring a total of 46 goals and conceding 11. And to the league figures, we can also add the Last 16 Copa del Rey tie from 2005-06 in which López Caro's Madrid side fired four past the visitors without reply.
Del Horno header
Athletic's 2005 win was also signficant for the hosts; it was Madrid's 100th league defeat at home, in the 1,147 games played at their stadium in LaLiga until that point. Asier Del Horno put the guests ahead with a towering header on 57 minutes and Andoni Iraola wrapped up the win on 73 minutes
Curiously, both Zinedine Zidane and Ernesto Valverde were present that day. Zidane started on the subs' bench and came on for Luis Figo when Vanderlei Luxemburgo made a triple substitutuon on 66 minutes (Ronaldo Nazário replaced Owen, Raúl came on for Raúl Bravo). While Valverde was enjoying his first spell in charge at Athletic. That win was the Rojiblancos' 13th in 85 visits to the Bernabéu. And until then, the Basque side, along with Barcelona, were the two teams with the most victories at the Whites Coliseum.
Cristiano's favourite victims
It's a fixture which Cristiano Ronaldo has really enjoyed over the years. At home, he has scored 12 goals against the Vizkainos at the Bernabéu. Benzema comes next with four but Gareth Bale has yet to open his account against Athletic, but then he's only met them once at the Bernabéu - in 5-0 win in October 2014.
