Guardiola dismisses claim that Real Madrid wanted him as coach
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola moved to deny claims made this week that Real Madrid had contacted him last season as a possible replacement for Rafa Benitez.
Update:
As Pep Guardiola appeared in front of the media ahead of Manchester City’s game against West Brom on Saturday, a large part of the press conference was centred on the coach’s winless streak of six games; Guardiola’s worst run in his managerial career so far.
However one question also addressed the claims that surfaced earlier this week in which Guardiola’s biographer Martí Perarnau revealed that Real Madrid were keen on appointing the Catalan as their new manager ahead of Zinedine Zidane.
"Madrid wouldn't be interested in a coach like me"
When asked by a Spanish journalist about the biographer’s affirmation, however, Guardiola was quick to dismiss it as false.
"Neither would I go, nor would Madrid be interested in a coach like me,” he answered.
