There’s no better way to celebrate your contract extension with Real Madrid than scoring a goal like Gareth Bale did on Wednesday. He had joked on social media last week about imitating Nacho’s golazo in León, and in Warsaw he cracked in a volley of his own beautiful style. Everyday Bale is looking a little more like the Bale we see with Wales, and seems determined to pull the cart for the BBC so far this season.

Until not long ago such a circumstance was unthinkable in a side which the Portuguese forward devoured records season after season.
