Three reasons why Marcelino won't get the Inter Milan job
The former Villarreal coach's demands were too excessive, according to the Italian press. Stefano Pioli could be appointed later today.
Inter post
Barring any last minute surprises, Stefano Pioli will be named Inter Milan's new coach following a week of negotiacions with two other candidates. Former Villarreal boss Marcelino was in direct contact with the Italian club - and Gianfranco Zola was also considered, but directors whittled the list down to just two - the Spaniard and former Lazio coach.
Ambitious demands
Pioli could be appointed later today and take the team for his first training session on Wednesday morning. Marcelino was close to being handed the job, but ruled himself out with excessive demands according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The ex-Villarreal coach asked for an annual salary of 3.5 million euros and a three-year contract - which satisfied Suning Holdings Group president Zhang Jindong but directors were put off when Marcelino requested bringing in his own coaching staff and being given a blank cheque to sign players when he saw fit.
