Eddie Alvarez has released a statement following his defeat at the hands of Conor McGregor in UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden and says he "fucked up" on the biggest stage he has made it to in his entire career.

Making history

Alvarez was knocked down three times in the first round before the ref put a stop to the fight in the second as McGregor made history by becoming the first fighter to hold belts in two divisions at the same time in UFC history.

In the open and honest statement that was posted to instagram, Alvarez says "I managed to make it to the biggest stage and audience in my long career and fucked it all up when I arrived."

Gameplan out the window

The 32-year-old says his gameplan was to "go left and mostly wrestle" as McGregor's vulnerability on the map has been questioned in the past but instead, Alverez says, he circled to the Dublin-born fighter's left and tried to box with him, which is a bad strategy for any fighter in the world.
