Google selects AS’ innovation project Football Data Suite
The project is a system which aims to organise and analyse historical real-time data to give newsrooms the chance to enrich content.
AS and Google are joining forces in their quest to enhance digital journalism. The multinational is set to back the multimedia project Football Data Suite with funding through the Investment Fund Digital News Initiative (DNI), a partnership between the American company and European media. The joint project aims to support innovation and new formats in digital information and journalism, and 124 projects have been offered funding, with 24 million euros offered to projects from 25 countries across Europe.
The Football Data Suite, a project which has received 450,000 euros, is a system which sets out to organise and analyse a range of historical real-time data to offer newsrooms the chance to enhance their content before, during and after competitions and games. The data will span multiple formats and a range of channels.
Spain has received a total of 2,109,805 euros in this round and has been chosen for 10 projects in highly divergent companies. A total of 800 projects from 25 countries were presented, whereby 124 projects will receive funding, of which 43 will work in the spirit of collaboration and association.
The Digital News Initiative will make 150 million euros available as it endeavours to set in motion new ways of thinking and offering European news organisations – big or small – the capacity required to try out new things, whilst also experimenting and innovating in digital space.
