The winner of the 2026 Leagues Cup—the tournament pitting all 18 Liga MX clubs against 18 MLS teams—will earn a $2 million champion’s payout. The runner-up will take home $1 million, while the third-place finisher will secure $500,000, in a competition that also rewards per-match incentives throughout the draw.

Beyond the championship prize, all participating clubs are guaranteed revenue from kickoff. Every team receives $100,000 for each match played regardless of outcome, along with an additional $50,000 bonus for every victory achieved during the tournament.

This tiered payout structure aims to reward both participation and on-field success. The format also provides an indirect financial boost for Mexican clubs, helping drive up to a 20% increase in their annual revenues.

Beyond the money: Concacaf qualification

Cash prizes are not the only reward on the line. Both finalists and the third-place finisher secure direct spots in the Concacaf Champions Cup, the marquee continental tournament that serves as the qualifying pathway for both the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

This competitive pipeline elevates the Leagues Cup beyond a series of cross-border exhibitions, providing a direct route to North America’s premier club stage.

Modest figures compared to global tournaments

Despite its growing media profile, the Leagues Cup prize pool remains modest when measured against other international competitions. While the Copa Libertadores champion can pocket up to $18 million for taking the title, the Leagues Cup winner takes home barely a fraction of that figure.

Still, the tournament’s appeal extends well beyond raw earnings. The annual showdown between North America’s top two leagues has firmly established the Leagues Cup as an increasingly lucrative sporting and commercial showcase for clubs on both sides of the border.
