Eyeing fourth place

Villarreal have the opportunity to reclaim fourth place in the table this evening when Atlético Madrid pay their annual visit to El Madrigal. Both teams need a good result to give them a cushion following an erratic couple of weeks - particularly Villarreal, who are keen to give their fans some extra cheer after sealing their place in the Last 32 of the Europa League with a win over Steaua București in the final group game.

Competitive spirit

Captain Bruno Soriano insists that the 'Submarine' have to make sure they remain  competitive in all three competitions. “We're really up for this meeting with Atlético - this team always stands up to the top sides and in games like this, there's no need to say anything to the lads - everyone ups their game and presses the opponent. All of us are motivated - it goes without saying”, Bruno explained. “But we need to show that same attitude against the lesser teams - the ones who might be lower down the table - if we don't, we've already seen what can happen”.

Aiming high

Villarreal managed to turn around a complicated situation in Europa League to make the next round. And Bruno put his fitness issues behind him to make last week's key clash with Steaua. “We suffered more than we had hoped, and we still need to work hard on all the issues that have got wrong for us, but this Villarreal is keen to do something big this year”, he said.
