Juventus could be planning a move for out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder James Rodríguez. The Old Lady’s director general, Giuseppe Marotta, was asked about the prospect by La Gazzetta dello Sport and responded: “James? It depends on how our market is. We will remain respectful of financial equilibrium, but everyone knows that Juventus want to place ourselves among the best clubs in the world. That will always be our ambition and objective.”

James unlikely to leave in January

AS understands that Juventus will not make an approach in the January window, precisely so as not to jeopardize the financial balance mentioned by Marotta and put in place months ago by the Juve board. Furthermore, with Madrid under a transfer embargo next month James will likely to be retained unless a bumper offer comes in for the player that would allow Madrid to recoup most of their 80-million-euro outlay in the summer of 2014.

Juve, Inter moves turned down

Juventus considered buying James last summer when Paul Pogba’s transfer to Manchester United left a space in the midfield and the club at that point had money to invest from the Frenchman’s world record fee. But James declined to entertain the offer, preferring to remain in Madrid and fight for his place. He also turned down an offer from Inter on deadline day. Juventus eventually bought Miralem Pjanic from Roma for 32 million euros.
