Dortmund signing Real Madrid target Isak part of internal war
The German club appears to have negotiated the deal for the young Swede behind the back of Thomas Tuchel, who only got wind of the situation through Swedish media rumours.
Not a happy camp at Dortmund
The signing of young Swedish star Alexander Isak - who's become known as a potential national heir to Zlatan Ibrahimovic - has caused some issues within the corridors of Borussia Dortmund. This is the story being reported today by German newspaper, Sport Bild.
According to the media outlet, team manager Thomas Tuchel was not part of the negotiations for the Swedish prodigy - who had been strongly linked to Real Madrid - and the directors at the club had not informed him of the decision prior to him getting wind of the developments through rumours in the Swedish press. Signs of discontent have already been evident. In a pre-match interview ahead of the match against Werden Bremen last Saturday he was asked about the potential signing but chose to evade the question and instead refered the question to the club's sporting director, Michael Zorc.
Uncertain management future
The information gathered by Sport Bild states that the relationship between Tuchel and Zorc, as well as with general director, Hans.Joachim Watzke, is distant and the manager does not participate in discussions around new transfers, something unheard of in former-manager Jürgen Klopp's time at the Westfalenstadion.
On Monday, during an interview for Kicker, Watzke seemed indifferent to the question posed about the extension of Tuchel's contract, which expires in 2018 saying, "We wanted to address contract extensions through last year but Thomas wanted to do so at the end of the season. The onus is on him."
