Kempes ousted

The storm continues to rage in Mestalla. Just a few hours ago, Mario Kempes revealed on his Twitter account that Valencia have informed him that he is no longer the club ambassador, a role he has occupied for several years.

The decision was taken in the wake of a number of tweets and comments which Kempes has been critical of the top brass at the club and the attitude within the dressing room. The last straw for club directors was the Argentinean's comments following yesterday's shock 0-4 defeat to Eibar. "Unfortunately, we are witnessing a team which is completely lost. Their game has vanished, they have no direction and the desire to win has all but gone", he wrote after the game.

Nothing changes

But at the same time, Kempes insists that he is as hurt as anyone by Valencia's failings: "My feelings for the club will not change and I will continue to air my opinions on what I see as are matters which have not been handled correctly".

Valencia meanwhile argued that part of the reason by Kempes has been relieved from his post is down to the fact that he lives several thousand miles away in the United States which means he is unable to be efficient in his job. A Valencia official travelled to the US to personally notify the former player of the club's decision. The club said: "Kempes is and will always be one of Valencia's greats and we appreciate his tenure as clyb ambassador. If in the future he returns to live in Valencia, the club will consider restablishing our commercial relationship".
