When things don't go to plan
It was a real chance for the free-flowing Celta side of Berizzo to show what they are made of this season on a European stage. Instead they have a trip to Donetsk knowing they'll have to win the second leg outright.
It was the home side that had the bulk of the chances, including a glorious one for John Guidetti in front of goal, but couldn't take any of them. And just before the half hour, a break away from their own penalty area allowed Shakhtar to take the lead. Gustavo Blanco Leschuk was the final piece in the counter jigsaw slotting home after teammate Marlos had rounded the keeper only to see his shot blocked almost on the line.
All to play for
Based on the pattern of play, Celta should still feel like they are in with a chance, although they could have made it much easier on themselves.
