Sergio Asenjo: a brick wall behind the Villarreal defence
The Spanish keeper has conceded 15 goals in 23 league games and kept 11 clean sheets. Keylor Navas has let in 14 in 15 with only four shutouts.
At the age of 27 and after three serious knee injuries, Sergio Asenjo has been in excellent form for Villarreal this season. The former Valladolid and Atlético keeper is in the lead for the Zamora trophy this season having conceded just 15 times in 23 league games at a rate of 0.63 goals per game. He has also kept 11 clean sheets in the competition, more than any other number one.
Navas form
Barcelona keeper Marc-André Ter Stegen has conceded the same number but has played two fewer games while Real stopper Keylor Navas, who has faced considerable criticism this season after his heroics last year, has let in 14 in 15 games since returning from his injury layoff with an Achilles tendon problem.

The Costa Rica international has managed only four clean sheets in the league and has a saved shots percentage of 74 percent, compared to Asenjo’s 81.7. On average, the Villarreal keeper makes 2.9 saves per game.

Real Madrid rank eighth in terms of clean sheets in the league this season with seven in 22 games, or 32 percent, the same number as Betis. Zinedine Zidane’s side are lagging behind Atlético (54%), Villarreal (50%), Barcelona (45%), Alavés (40%), Real Sociedad, Espanyol and Sevilla (all 36%) in that respect.
Last season Madrid managed 24 clean sheets in 52 games in all competitions, a 46-percent record of keeping the score to zero.
