Zozulya rescinds Rayo contract and starts search for new club

Real Betis striker Roman Zozulya has rescinded his loan contract with Rayo Vallecano by mutual accord after the Ukraine striker was rejected by sections of the club’s fan base over allegations of neo-Nazi sympathies and links to paramilitary groups in his native country stemming from an article in a Seville-based newspaper.

Despite writing an open letter to Rayo fans denying any far-right sympathies, a fan backlash against the player’s signing saw his return to Betis without featuring for the side.
On Thursday, both parties agreed to waive financial aspects of the deal to bring the matter to a close and now Zozulya’s agent, Vladimir Kuzmenko, will go about the task of finding a new club for his client. Zozulya cannot play for his parent club, Betis, after registering with Rayo under Spanish Football Federation rules and cannot return to Dnipro, from where the Andalusian club signed him, as he was on the books there at the beginning of the season and Uefa regulations prevent a player registering for four clubs in a season.

“Zozulya has plenty of options to continue his career. He won’t have any problems to play. We’ll talk to the clubs that are interested when we are given permission,” Kuzmenko said.
The Ukraine international has been training with Betis while his situation is resolved. Zozulya can sign for any club around the world in a league whose season kicked off in 2017, opening up the possibility of a move to MLS, China or a northern European league.
