Dogfight over the Hawthorns as Arsenal slump to 3-1 defeat

Before the game against West Brom, two planes took to the skies above the stadium, one calling for Wenger to leave and the other urging loyalty.

Arsenal’s visit to West Brom was not without incident as the debate over Arsene Wenger’s future continues to rumble on.

Plane messages for Wenger

During the Premier League match, two light aircraft took to the skies above the midlands town with two contrasting messages for the under-fire Gunners boss. When Craig Dawson opened the scoring for the home side, one flew over the stadium trailing a banner with “Wenger out” emblazoned on it.

Shortly afterwards, coinciding with Alexis Sánchez’s equaliser, another performed a fly-by with the slogan “In Wenger we trust. Respect.”

Bayern battering

Arsenal were annihilated in the Champions League by Bayern Munich, suffering the joint-heaviest defeat in the history of the competition on the wrong end of a 10-2 aggregate score line. In the league, Arsenal lie fifth and five points adrift of Liverpool, leaving Wenger’s record of qualifying for the Champions League for the past decade and a half in serious danger.

The final score in the Hawthorns did little to dispel the sense of impending doom: West Brom won 3-1.
