Oubiña: Ex-Celta player and mum help catch out internet trickster

An online con artist appears to have been rumbled over an attempt to sell a fake Celta Vigo shirt supposedly worn by Borja Oubiña.

Oubiña: Ex-Celta player and mum help catch out internet trickster

Former Celta Vigo player Borja Oubiña looks to have helped to catch out an internet scammer, according to reports in the Galician press.

The suspected swindler is currently up in court in Vigo after being reported by a football fan for allegedly selling a fake Oubiña shirt from his Celta days.

The supporter paid 350 euros for what was purportedly the 34-year-old's jersey from the LaLiga side's Champions League tie with Arsenal 13 years ago.

Having received the garment, however, the punter began to suspect that the XL-sized sky blue top, bearing Oubiña's name and number 28, was a fake.

Oubiña's mum comes up with crucial evidence

Thankfully, Oubiña's mother has kept many of her son's shirts from big games in his career - including the last-16 second leg at Highbury in March 2004.

The midfielder played the full 90 minutes in North London as Os Celestes went down 2-0 to the Gunners to exit Europe's premier club competition 5-2 on aggregate.

And comparisons between the two jerseys have revealed differences in key details - such as the embroidering of the badge - and that Oubiña wore a smaller size.

The case is ongoing.
