Coentrão: "If I am not playing it is because of the coach"

Fabio Coentrão expressed his discontent over his current situation at Real Madrid in an interview with Portuguese daily Récord, stating that he is going through a “tough moment” but that he feels he is “still alive” in his struggle to gain more playing time under Zinedine Zidane.
“A lot of false information gets written,” the left back said. “I’m completely recovered [from injury] and training completely normally. If I am not playing at this point in time it is because of the coach. I’m training every day and I’ll continue to push myself because I’m still alive. I’m not going to let my head drop.”
Coentrão: "If Real Madrid want me to stay then perfect"
Coentrão has found his playing time extremely limited this season under Zidane and due to a raft of injuries and the Portugal international intimated that the situation could not continue indefinitely: “I have a contract at Real Madrid until 2019 and if they want me to stay then perfect. If not, I’ll follow my own path. I’m not going to pretend I’m not going through a tough moment. In 2017-18 I hope to start again. I want to play at the top level for another three or four year, at Real Madrid or at another club.”
Euro 2016 disappointment
The 29-year-old has played just four times this season: once in the league, once in the Copa del Rey and twice in the Champions League. Coentrão has also lost his place in the Portugal squad and hasn’t been called up since the end of 2015 for European qualifiers against Albania and Denmark, eventually missing out on the squad that won the 2016 European Championship in France.
