Cicinho admits that Real Madrid spell was start of alcohol hell
The Brazilian full back has been speaking about his fight with alcoholism admitting that he was unable to just have one beer, and that he sought peace in tattoos.
Brazilian defender Cicinho confessed last summer to having an extreme problem with alcohol addiction. It was a habit that led to him quitting football ahead of time but he has acknowledged that, more than that, his life was in danger.
Real Madrid star Cicinho used tattoos for depression
In a recent interview with Fox, the former Real Madrid player has said that his arrival in the Spanish capital was the beginning of his hell. And an example of his depression, he revealed, were his tattoos of which he has more than 30, all done when he was drunk as he thought that it would hurt less. He believed at the time that the needle was going to bring him peace from the depressive state:
"I'm not comfortable with my tattoos. I had them done while under the influence of alcohol. I drank because it hurt and needed that to get the tattoos. I didn't hide it. I thought tattoos would bring me peace. It's not like that.
"I imagine myself at 60 years old eating sponge cake and covered in tattoos," he said.
"I regret everything I did. These things take your blood and don't cure any form of depression. Instead you run the risk of getting more depressed."
Real Madrid full-back with problems
Cicinho played for Real Madrid between 2005 and 2007 and now recognizes that things got out of hand in the Spanish capital:
"I was an alcoholic because I was not able to drink just a single beer. I drank until I fell over."
