Bayern on the horizon

Real Madrid began preparations for their upcoming trip to Munich on Wednesday to face Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final (20:45, CET). The Real first team trainined on Sunday to recover from their exertions during the 1-1 draw against city rivals in the Santiago Bernabéu.

"Disappointed"

The Madrid players pondered how they managed to let a 1-0 lead slip in the closing stages of the match: "We're all just a bit disappointed with the result," Sergio Ramos said, using the same word as Zidane in his post-match press conference.

Pepe's absence

Nacho Fernández is likely to cover the hole left by Pepe after the Portuguese defender, who scored Madrid's only goal against Atlético, broke two ribs in a clash with team-mate Toni Kroos. Keylor Navas, Marcelo, Luka Modric, Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema all completed a light training session outside, with Dani Carvajal, Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo using the training ground's indoor facilities to recover from the heat of the derby. Raphael Varane, meanwhile, remains sideline with a hamstring injury.
