United have met the Belgian outfit three times in European competition.
The first meeting was in September 1956. United carried a 0-2 first leg advantage to Maine Road, where Anderlecht were duly thumped 10-0! It remains the Belgians heaviest defeat and United's biggest scoreline in Europe.
The next meeting was also in the European Cup, 12 years later in 1968. United lost the first leg 3-1 but goals from Denis Law and Brian Kidd in the return saw them progress to the quarter finals.
The most recent meeting was in the Champions League group stage in 2000. Denis Irwin scored from the spot home and away, United thrashing their guests 5-1 in Manchester with Andy Cole grabbing a brace.
