The secret to Karim Benzema's leaner, fitter physique as French striker loses weight

The French striker has lost five kilos and looks much leaner, sharper and more explosive as he shifts from right to left and back to centre forward for Real Madrid.

Benzema ante el Bayern.

Karim Benzema is in excellent form for Real Madrid. He looks sharper, fitter and faster than he has before for Real Madrid and is offering more in every aspect of his play as he moves all over the field like a will-o'-the-wisp. The French striker admitted after the game against Bayern Munich that he had lost five kilos. It might be easy to suggest that Benzema got stuck into a beach-body operation that meant he was spending hours in the gym and cutting out carbs. This is not the case, however, as it would be too dangerous for a high level athlete to engage in a regime like this given the effect it has on energy levels, speed and strength.

Zinedine Zidane spoke about the striker's commitment and his fitness ahead of the Sporting Gijon game too, "Benzema has lost the weight all on his own. Physically he is much slimmer, he is really good. He knows the importance of playing every three days."

Benzema in tip-top shape

Benzema has a habit of spending the last week of his summer vacations in a centre in the Italian town of Merano where he focuses on being in prime condition for the upcoming season. The only reason Benzema has lost weight and seems more explosive is that he has been doing several exercises over the course of a number of months to reinforce and activate various parts of his muscles. He also wears an electrostimulation vest that helps with this and is a factor in contributing to his leaner look. The visible effect this has is that the muscles are drier and weigh less making him more explosive than ever.

Benzema, who has always kept a close eye on his diet and even changed his chef a while back as he believed his old cook made dishes that were too greasy, has been helped by the food cooked Real Madrid kitchen staff and both he and the club are experiencing the benefits.
