Update:

Fabio Capello was co-commentating on the Real Madrid-Barcelona tussle for Fox Sports Italia, a match which was decided by an injury time winner from Lionel Messi who made it 2-3 on the night to the Catalan side.

Criminal

The Italian was custodian of the Santiago Bernabeu bench, managing Madrid on two occasions but his "merengue" past didn't distil his judgement on the Sergio Ramos expulsion. The Italian stated: "A straight red for Ramos was the correct decision. Just look at the lunge on Messi, it's criminal. He furthered: "Each time there is a Madrid-Barça duel at the Santiago Bernabéu, certain Madrid players go out with the intention of injuring Messi".

Capello was full of praise for the Barcelona No. 10 claiming: "Cristiano is a great player but Messi is a genius. It's incredible to watch what the Argentinian player did. He carried his team single-handedly. Cristiano is a fine goal scorer but at the Bernabeu we saw a player who was pivotal in the win for his side and I witnessed Messi doing things that I'd never seen him do before.

He concluded that after the result, "the race for the league title is very much alive and Madrid are still in a strong position with the game in hand but they do have the strain of two demanding Champions League semi-final games to contend with".
