Theo Hernández has passed a medical revision and has signed a contract committing himself to Real Madrid for the next five seasons. The Atlético de Madrid left-back, currently on loan at Alavés, has elected his future. The defender, who has been deliberating between the Bernabéu and Camp Nou, will announce his decision at the end of May, after the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Alavés. Barcelona officials had met with the player's agent Manuel García Quilón in Soria on 26 April to put forward their offer, conditions which were believed to have been more or less identical to those offered by Madrid. Theo will spend the next five seasons at the Bernabéu, starting off with a 3.5 million euro salary which will be progressively increased over the course of his time at the club.

Theo passes medical with flying colours

The 19-year-old passed a thorough examination at the Sanitas-La Moraleja Clinic in Madrid. Now Madrid must stump up his buy-out fee, set at 24 million euros, at the end of the season to complete the operation. The final fee is in fact believed to be higher - 30 million.

Pact between Atlético and Real Madrid broken

Theo joins to reinforce the left-back position which is currently occupied by Marcelo. While Theo will join as back-up for the Brazilian, it means that Fábio Coentrão is certain to be moving on at the end of June with Galatasaray one possible destination for the out-of-favour Portugal international.

Theo's move to the Bernabéu effectively breaks the transfer protection pact agreed by Real Madrid and Atlético not to poach each other's players directly. The player's agent, Manuel García Quilón, said recently that Theo would make his decision at the end of May, but the news leaked out before he had a chance to do so.

Alavés issued a statement to declare that they are completely unaware of Theo's transfer to Real Madrid.
