Godín's Liga season over after three-match ban confirmed
The Atlético central defender has been slapped with a ban after being sent off against Eibar and will miss the opening game of 2016-17PSG - Real Madrid: Champions League
Diego Godín will play his last-ever match in the Vicente Calderón against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final return leg on Wednesday night after being handed a three-match ban that will rule him out for the final two Liga games of the season and Atleti’s opener of the 2017-18 campaign.
Godín: "Get some glasses"
Godín was sent off for two cautionable offences against Eibar last weekend, which carries an automatic one-game ban, and then offered the following advice to the linesman: “Get some glasses.” That, and the Uruguayan’s observation that the match officials were “very bad at your job” earned the defender a two-game ban for “using disparaging language” towards the fourth official.
Godín will therefore miss the final two games of the Liga season against Betis (away) and Athletic in the Calderón on the last day, as well as the opening fixture of next season, although Atlético are certain to appeal against the additional two-game ban dished out by the LFP disciplinary committee.
