Pepe is one step closer to completing his departure from Real Madrid following a meeting between his agent and Inter Milan which ended with a verbal agreement. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the centre-back has accepted Inter's offer of a two-year contract with a take-home salary of four million euros plus performance-related add-ons.
Pepe, Italy-bound after a decade at the Bernabéu
Pepe leaves Madrid on a free transfer after 10 years at Real Madrid. The club's offer of a one-season extension didn't appeal to the player, who turned 34 in February. True to his word, Pepe waited as long as he could in the hope he could reach some kind of agreement with Madrid but the reunion held by Piero Ausilio and Jorge Mendes in Montecarlo this weekend appears to have nudged Pepe into making a final decision on his future. Pepe joined Real Madrid from Porto in 2007 for 30 million euros.
The operation still needs to be signed off by Inter owner Zhang Jindong but no hitches are expected bearing in mind that the Nerazzurri are looking to bring in three experienced players and Pepe fits the bill to perfection.
Unable to say goodbye to the Bernabéu
Pepe will leave Real Madrid without having the chance to say his thanks and wave goodbye to the Santiago Bernabéu. Zidane decided to leave him out of the squad for tonight's meeting with Sevilla - the final home game of the season as the coach didn't want to take any risks with the defender, whos is still recovering from the cracked ribs he suffered in the derby.
