Ancelotti: "Benzema is the best striker to complement Cristiano"
Carlo Ancelotti analysed the Champions League final ahead of the game in Cardiff on June 3rd and covered everything from Zidane to Ronaldo, Bayern Munich and Gigi Buffon.
Carlo Ancelotti gave an interview to 'Corriere della Sera' after finishing his first season as the manager of Bayern Munich. The Italian manager admitted that the "Bundesliga was the minimum objective" and analysed some of the details involved in the Champions League final in Cardiff on June 3rd.
Aside from picking Mbappe and Dybala as two revelations, which he says doesn't come as much of a surprise and also revealing "I won't stop. Alex Ferguson was on the bench for 2,000 games", he spoke candidly about his side's defeat at the hands of his former employees and the need for a video assistant referee.
Speaking on Karim Benzema and the seemingly eternal debate over who should start up front for Real Madrid, Ancelotti says, "Morata plays so little under Zidane because Benzema is the best striker to play with Cristiano."
Bayern Munich quarter-final defeat
Bayern Munich were defeated by Real Madrid in the quarter-final to set up a clash with Atletico Madrid in the semi-final, but there was some debate over the legitimacy of two of Ronaldo's three goals in the second leg. Ancelotti believes, "it was an injustice."
"The history books will says that Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich and that's it. But what happened in Madrid, the whole world saw. It was not normal and they have to put a VAR system, because it is a necessity."
Ancelotti said he will be watching the game with great interest in Cardiff and says, "I sympathise with the oldest that play. For me, Buffon is special. And Real Madrid and not just Cristiano. There is also Ramos, Modric, Marcelo, Benzema and many others."
And he also said that what Zidane has achieved comes as no surprise as "he's very smart and knows a lot about football".
