Ceballos: Betis try to increase clause as Madrid and Atleti circle
Real Betis talisman Dani Ceballos has a €15m clause but could leave for as little as €9m, which club president Ángel Haro is working to rectifyBarcelona vs Atlético: UEFA Youth League
As the U21 European Championship approaches, Real Betis are working to push through a new contract for star midfielder Dani Ceballos, a target for both Madrid and Atlético.
Ceballos could leave Betis for just €9m
Ceballos’ current clause is €15 million, which already appears as a bargain. AS can reveal that he could leave for less, if the player’s agents present Betis with an offer of €9 million or more.
Club president Ángel Haro recognises the need to progress quickly.
“We’ve been talking for a while, we want to build the team around him. We’re working to ensure that his clause isn’t in effect.”
Madrid and Atlético circling
Atlético Madrid, and neighbours Real Madrid, have been among the clubs to show an interest in the Spain U21 international. As the Court of Arbitration for Sport have upheld Atlético’s transfer ban, Ceballos would be unable to play for Los Rojiblancos until January 2018.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, would buy the player and immediately loan him back to Real Betis for another season in Andalusia. Quique Setién, the recently-announced manager at the Benito Villamarín, would see this arrangement as preferable.
