Voetbal proclaim Messi as the best player in history; Cristiano, not even in the Top 5

The prestigious Dutch specialist magazine put the Barcelona player ahead of Maradona. Johan Cruyff, Pelé and Alfredo Di Stéfano.

Voetbal International, the prestigious and long-standing Dutch football magazine, founded in 1962 has elected Lionel Messi as the best football player in the history of the game in their sixth round of voting to establish a ranking  of the top 100 players of all time. Voetbal place Messi first, ahead of Diego Maradona, a World Cup winner with Argentina in 1986 (the only trophy which Messi has never won); and also ahead of national treasure Johan Cruyff, Pelé and Alfredo Di Stéfano, the other players who make up the top five in their ranking.

Messi, a five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or - a feat which Cristiano Ronaldo could equal, has been recognized for his incredible career during which he has amassed 30 honours with Barcelona as we as his Olympic gold medal with Argentina at the Beijing Games in 2008. Cristiano meanwhile, doesn't even figure in the top five...
