LaLiga breaks record attendance with over 14 million spectators
The top two divisions in Spanish football saw record attendances and season ticket sales over the 2016/17 season, culminating in Real Madrid taking the top title.
LaLiga season 2016-17, that includes both top divisions in Spanish football, has seen more than 14 million spectators fill the stadia to see their favourite teams in action. This number exceeds that of the previous campaign giving the league a new record for overall attendance.
Record attendances in LaLiga
According to the numbers provided by LaLiga, the total number of attendees was 14,052,134 in the 42 stadia of LaLiga Santander and LaLiga 123, up around 40,000 on the previous season (14,014,099).
The Primera División that saw Real Madrid battle out the title with Barcelona till the final day, saw average attendance up 71.5%, with the number of season ticket holders reaching record highs (over 7,7 million) and ticket sales doing likewise (1.9 million). The second tier accumulated over 3.5 million spectators in attendance and also saw record season ticket sales of over 2.5 million.

"These figures confirm the growth of LaLiga and reaffirm the positive evoltion seen over the past few seasons," said a LaLiga spokesperson.
