Athletic Club were the latest to present their new kits for the 2017/18 season. The Basque club unveiled three strips - the home kit maintains the classic red and white vertical stripes and features a spread collar and red shoulders. The away kit has a black shirt with minimal, red and grey trimmings, light grey shorts and black socks.
Athletic nod to Blackburn Rovers with third strip
Athletic's third kit harks back to the 1903 Copa del Rey-winning side when the Bilbaínos became the first club to win the trophy, and did so in their original blue and white strip which was inspired by English side Blackburn Rovers' colours.
The goalkeepers' kit is entirely royal blue with just the sparcest of adornments, such as the Basque flag, the Ikurrina, on the reverse by the neck. Players from Athletic's men's and women's teams modelled the new kits at San Mamés today: Iago Herrerín, San José, Muniain, Aduriz, Laporte, Ainhoa and Damaris looking the part during this morning's presentation.
Club values respected
Club director Jokin Garatea, master of ceremonies for the event said on the new, New Balance kit: “It remains true to our values, it's a kit which embraces modernity while respecting and staying true to our roots”.
Athletic ended the presentation with a lottery with one lucky winner going home with one of the new shirts.
