REAL MADRID

Luca Zidane ready for step-up should Yáñez depart for greener pastures

New chance for Luca Zidane after a shoulder injury put paid to his last season as Yáñez draws interest from LaLiga clubs.

Luca Zidane.

Real Madrid continue to produce goalkeepers and another youth product is set to make the step up next season. Luca Zidane will be the starter for Real Madrid Castilla and will most likely be the third choice goalkeeper for Zinedine Zidane's first team as Rubén Yáñez looks for opportunities away from the club.

The keepers are working with Luis Llopis and Luca has been backing up Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla in UCLA. Zidane's season was cut short last year when he suffered a dislocated left shoulder in March. He is showing no ill effects of the injury in California during preseason.

Yáñez, who worked with Mourinho and Ancelotti during their spells in charge of Real Madrid, only played 14 minutes against Cultural Leonesa in the Copa del Rey kast season but all of Real Madrid's recent goalkeeping departures have landed on their feet in the top flight. Antonio Adán at Real Betis, Jesus Fernandez at Levante and Pacheco at Alavés. He has been attracting interest from teams like Getafe and at 23 and a product of Valdebebas appears to have a bright future ahead of him even if it is not at Real Madrid. If he does leave in the summer, Luca will fill the third goalkeeper's role and the first choice on with the second team.
