Florentino Pérez: "Isco has already renewed his contract"
The Real Madrid president spoke on Spanish radio and confirmed that the Spain international, whose deal runs out in 2018, has extended.
Florentino Pérez gave an interview with Spanish radio station Cadena SER on Thursday evening during which he discussed the current Real Madrid squad, Marco Asensio and Isco’s contract renewal, which Pérez said has been signed and will be made official in the coming days.
“We sold few players this summer, just those that wanted to leave,” Pérez said of the club’s summer business. “Isco arrived when he was young, with his whole life ahead of him, and he has now become what we anticipated he would. He is still only 25. We have 11 Spanish players, nine of them from the youth teams, in a squad of 24. Isco has renewed his contract. We will make the official announcement in the coming days. We’ll be announcing all the new contract extensions.”
Asensio offers
Pérez also spoke about Asensio and interest from other clubs in the Spain international: “I believe that there were inquiries for him but everybody knows he is happy here and we’re happy with him. He is going to give us a lot to be happy about. He came to us when he was very young. He didn’t come through the cantera but as he arrived at such a young age we consider him a youth product. At Madrid all the players have enormous buy-out clauses, it is a dissuasive device: if somebody wants to buy one of our players they can call us and we’ll tell them if it’s possible or not. I can’t remember what Marco’s clause is it but it is high. Even if it was 10 million euros he wouldn’t go anywhere because is happy at Real Madrid.”
No Barcelona inquiries for Madrid players
The Real president denied that Barcelona had made an approach for any Madrid players during the summer window: “As far as I know, Barcelona didn’t make an attempt to take any of our players. People talk a lot in summer. If I had taken any notice of those saying a couple of years ago that we were going to sell Isco, we’d have egg on our faces now. Isco has been in spectacular form from the end of last season and the beginning of this one. And he can still get better. We let five players go and brought in six and I think that we have a perfectly balanced squad.”
