FIFA has published its latest world rankings, with Spain's position of eighth not enough to see them take their place among the 2018 World Cup's top seeds.

October rankings used for World Cup draw seedings

The body's October rankings are to be used to determine the occupants of each of the four, eight-team pots at the World Cup draw in Moscow on 1 December.

Julen Lopetegui's men have risen by three spots after beating Albania and Israel in qualifying this month - with the first of those two victories sealing their berth at Russia 2018 - but are edged into pot 2 by France.

Top seven in FIFA rankings go into pot 1 with hosts Russia

Les Bleus' total of 1226 ranking points - just eight more than Spain - saw them claim seventh in FIFA's monthly standings and take the final spot in pot 1 alongside top six Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium and Poland.

The world's seven highest-ranked nations are joined by Russia, who automatically go into pot 1 as tournament hosts.
