Harry Kane's curriculum vitæ speaks for itself: he's the top scorer in this edition of the Champions League with five goals, one more than Cristiano, and the last two Premier League Golden Boot awards sit on his mantelpiece at home. In 2015-16, he contributed 25 goals to the cause for Spurs and last season he improved on that figure, ending on 29. So far this season, he is on six league goals, just behind Manchester United's Romelu Lukaku on seven.

In 2005, when Beckham opened his football academy in Greenwich, a 12-year-old Harry Kane was one of his pupils.

Beckham opened his football academy in Greenwich, London and Kane was one of the youngsters in the inaugural programme. It was their first meeting but not the last. “I got to know David better when he came to train with Tottenham for a few months in 2011. He's humble, a great guy and a role model for me”, said Kane, who made his full international debut for England aged 21. “Harry is an amazing striker and he's got a good head on his shoulders”, Beckham would say about his former pupil...
