Valencia's Simone Zaza scoops Liga player of the month award
The Italian striker scored four goals in the second month of the competition. Jaime Mata of Valladolid bagged the Segunda División prize.
Simone Zaza has been named LaLiga player of the month for September, the first award of the new season. The Italian striker scored four goals for Valencia during the period, firing Los Che up to second in the Liga table and helping his side to claim eight points from a possible 12 in September.
Zaza hat-trick at Málaga sways panel
Zaza’s finest moment so far this season came on September 19 in Mestalla, when he hit a hat-trick in the 5-0 thrashing of Málaga. The striker will be presented with his trophy in Valencia’s stadium before the match against Sevilla on Saturday so that he can share it with the home fans.
Mata win's Segunda player of the month
In Segunda División, the monthly award went to Valladolid forward Jaime Mata, who scored four goals and assisted another two as the Pucelanos rose up to sixth in the table and into the playoff places. It is the first time in his career that the 28-year-old has won a player of the month award and, like Zaza, he will be handed it before Valladolid host Lugo at the weekend.
