Barcelona will offer Leo Messi a contract for life, says CEO
Club CEO Óscar Grau announced that Messi has already renewed until 2021 and had his buy-out clause raised to 300 million eurios.
"Messi renewed for four years in June but the club will offer him a lifelong contract. The idea is that Leo, who came here as a young boy, remains with us for life as a he is an iconic figure". Barcelona CEO Óscar Grau declared during today's General Ordinary Shareholders meeting.
Messi extended his contract to 2021 in June
While there is no photographic evidence to show Messi signing his new contract alongside club president Josep Maria Bartomeu, Grau insisted that the player has extended his contract with Barça to 2021 back in June. The only difference is the announcment of Barça's plan to offer the Argentinean a contract for life which would see him end his playing days at Camp Nou.
The arrangement would be similar to the one which the club agreed with Andrés Iniesta in his new deal. Grau added that Barça hope that Messi will follow in the footsteps of Ronaldinho and one day become an ambassasdor for the club.
