SERIE A
Benevento equal Manchester United's 87 year old record
The Campania based outfit fell 2-1 to Juventus at the Allianz stadium in Turin on Sunday to record their twelfth successive defeat in Italy's top flight.

Despite going ahead on Sunday last against current Serie A title holders Juventus in Turin, newly promoted Benevento Calcio ultimately fell to two second half Juve goals from Higuain and Juan Cuadrado to notch their twelfth consecutive defeat in this, their debut season in Serie A.

The loss also saw the "Stregoni" (Witches) equal a 87 year old record, previously held by English side Manchester United for the worst start to a new season by any team in Europe's top five leagues (Spain, England, Germany, France and Italy).
United suffer relegation
After twelve straight defeats to open the 1930/31 season, "The Red Devils" finally broke their hoodoo with a 2-0 home win against Birmingham City. That very same season United were relegated, managing to just record seven victories during the course of the campaign.

Record breakers
Benevento had already surpassed the domestic Serie A record for worst start ever outshining the that of Venezia in 1950 (nine opening losses) and their defeat at the hands of Lazio in match-day 11 saw the giallorossi equal the European record in the top 5 leagues held by French outfit Grenoble Foot who dug themselves into a similar hole early on a run off 11 successive defeats to open the 2009-10 campaign.
Next up for Roberto De Zerbi's men is a home clash with 17th placed side Sassuolo and an opportunity for the men in red and yellow to halt their undesirable record.
