Real Madrid returned to the training pitches at Valdebebas on Wednesday for the first session of the international break with those players not called up for their national teams and others who are returning from injury with one piece of timely good news for Zinedine Zidane: the return of Mateo Kovacic to the fold.

The Croatia midfielder was back out on the turf and working with the ball having been out of action since picking up a knee injury in the Champions League game against Apoel on September 13 during a run of appearances for Zidane’s starting eleven in which the former Inter player had looked in fine form and marked Leo Messi to good effect in the Spanish Super Cup.

Also at Zidane’s disposal was right back Dani Carvajal, who is continuing his recovery from a heart condition, along with Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Lucas Vázquez, Theo Hernández, Marcos Llorente and Kiko Casilla.

Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo could start against Atlético

Zidane’s first-choice forward line, who have not played together since last April, are in line for starts against Atlético on November 18 along with the right back, who has not played since being diagnosed with pericarditis at the end of September.

Also involved in the session were Castilla players Álvaro Tejero, Manu Hernando, Seoane, Óscar, Feuillassier, Cristo and Dani Gómez and youth team keeper Moha, who has been in Zidane’s match day squad in recent weeks while Luca and Keylor Navas continue their recovery programmes.
