Nabil Fekir, Real Madrid's latest target

According to SFR Sport, the Spanish giants are keen on the 24 year old Lyon forward. Zidane's been watching him for a time.

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane says he's only interested in the present, but he wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't have one eye on future prospects who could prosper at the Bernabéu. And one name the French coach has been following keenly is Nabil Fekir, Lyon's 24 year old explosive attacking midfielder who can also play as an out and out striker.

Zidane keen on Fekir

The French international, of Algerian descent (he had to choose between France and Algeria), is fast, can beat his man, and is great in front of goal, something Madrid have been missing with the sale of Morata, James and Mariano. The latter is now a teammate of Fekir and doing spectacularly.

In the 15 games Fekir has played this season he's scored 12 and set up three. Numbers that have led to a call up to the French side and seen Zidane to start seriously thinking about a move for the player next season (Madrid also aren't losing sight of Mariano, over whom they apparently have a re-purchase option, although that's disputed).

Fekir recovered from torn ligament

In 2015 Zidane praised Fekir: "Watching him play is impressive, he hits the ball so hard and you can see he's got a lot of personality. He impressed me technically". That year Fekir was chosen as the best youngster in Ligue 1, but then tore a knee ligament putting his career on temporary hold as he recovered. He's now back to full fitness and is meeting the expectations placed on him.

Real Madrid to face competition for Fekir

If Real Madrid do decide to press ahead with a move for Fekir, who is under contract to 2020, they'll have competition. SFR Sport reports that Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus are all also keen. However Real Madrid have an advantage. Last year, in an interview with Canal Football Club the player revealed his intentions: "If Zizou calle me tomorrow, I'd be delighted to move, I'd never say no to him".
