Real Madrid: Paulinho has scored as many as Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema combined
Madrid's 'BBC' attacking trident has spluttered in front of goal this season, while Barcelona's much-maligned signing has displayed his knack for arriving at he right time.
Real Madrid did not manage to take three points away from their first visit to the Wanda Metropolitano, and remain 10 points behind Barcelona in the LaLiga table. Ernesto Valverde's side extended their lead with a hard-fought victory over Leganés in the afternoon kick-off. Yet the most concerning thing for Zinedine Zidane is the ongoing woe in front of goal.
Paulinho equals Ronaldo, Bale, Benzema combined
Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema - who partnered each other in attack for the Madrid Derby - have only scored one goal each in the league. Their traditional partner in the 'BBC' attacking trident, Gareth Bale, has been plagued by injury. Yet the Welshman has still managed two goals.
The 'BBC' therefore have four goals between them, which is the same amount as Barça midfielder Paulinho, who was much-maligned by fans of the Blaugrana following his €40m move from Guangzhou Evergrande.
Alongside the Brazilian, who has a knack of arriving in the box at the right time to finish, 12 players have scored more goals than Ronaldo, Benzema, and Bale combined: Lionel Messi (12), Simeone Zaza and Cedric Bakambu (9), Christian Stuani, Tonny Sanabria, and Rodrigo (7), Ángel Rodríguez, Mikel Oyarzabal, Iago Aspas, and Maxi Gómez (6), while Luis Suárez and Willian José both have 5.
Real Madrid and Atléti goal-less for first time since 2005
Beyond individual statistics, the draw on Saturday evening was the first time the two bitter rivals have seen out a stalemate in 12 years (in 2005 at the Bernabéu).
It was also Real Madrid's first goal-less draw for over two years, with the last one coming in a match against Málaga in September 2015.
Not long ago, a Real Madrid goal at some point in the match was as certain as death and taxes. Now, they are worrying scarce.
