SEVILLA

Sevilla post first comeback and eighth win by the minimum

Berizzo's team turned the tables on Celta this afternoon. Sevilla have lost every game in which they've gone behind on the board apart from the Espanyol match.

Eduardo Berizzo's Sevilla now know how it feels to bounce back and win a match they seemed on course to lose. Until today, the southerners had dropped points whenever they found themselves trailing on the score board. In this afternoon's home game against Celta, Sevilla went behind when Maxi Gómez's looping header arced over David Soria and inside the post on 12 minutes. But Berizzo's men retaliated and were level 23 minutes later when Luis Muriel headed in from an indirect free-kick. Almost immediately after kick-off in the second half, Nolito finished off a classic, Sevilla wing move to put the team ahead and after that, the team managed to ride out a handful of Celta attacks with Pablo Hernández and Maxi Gómez both missing with the goal gaping.

Sevilla, just one home defeat in the league in over a year

It brought up Sevilla's eighth consecutive victory at the Sánchez Pizjuán, where the team remains unbeaten for almost a year (Barcelona were the last team to win there, scoring a 1-2 victory on 6 November last year to become the only team to beat the Andalucians at the stadium last season). Vociferous support from the stands has been one of the keys to Sevilla's almost unblemished home record. However, performances haven't been dazzling enough to stop one section of the crowd from whistling their own team. For some unknown reason, Franco Vázquez has been the target of much of the abuse although others haven't escaped the ire of supporters when things haven't been going as planned.

Scraping slim wins at home

Today's win was Sevilla's 11th of the campaign in all competitions and curiously, eight of them, or 72%, have been won by just one goal's difference. The team have registered 2-1 wins at home to Celta, Spartak Moscow and Leganés and also beat Las Palmas by the minimum, 1-0, in Week 5.
